The von Stackelberg estates in Estonia

The von Stackelberg family had estates in various parts of Estonia. Fähna Manor and Hördel Manor are typical examples of them

Fähna (Vääna) Manor House

Fähna Manor, which was built in 1784 by Otto Christian Englbrecht von Stackelberg, looks like a palace, even stressed by the rotunda in its wings. There used to be a very valuable art collection in the Manor with masterpieces of such painters as Hans Holbein, Nicolas Poussin, Claude Lorraine und Antoine Watteu. In autumn of 1919, Egbert von Stackelberg, married Mary von Liphart from Ratshof in Livland, but was disposed from his Manor, including ca. 4 730 ha land, in the same year.

Hördel (Hõreda) Manor House

Hördel Manor is a wonderful mixture of classicism and baroque. In 1813, after the building of the house was finished, the owners of the Manor often changed, until in 1842 it became the property of the Stackelbergs. Georg Wolter Stackelberg, the owner of the Manors Kaltenbrunn (Roosna-Alliku) and Sarnakorb, bought the Hördel Manor together with Payel Manor from Karl Pilar, for a set value of 123 000 Rbl. In 1886, he married Marie von Toll from Wodja and lived till 1907, whereupon, until the dispossession in 1919, the Manors Hördel with Payel and ca. 1677 ha land remained the undivided property of his heir.
