Baron Berndt Otto I. von Stackelberg 1662-1734

Berndt Otto von Stackelberg was born on the 14th of May, 1662, in Reval. His parents were Wolter von Stackelberg and Helene (born von Lieven).
Bernd Otto began his service as a volunteer of the guards and after 10 years in France he was advanced to the position of Captain.
On the 11th of March 1702, Berndt Otto was assigned as Commander of the Björneberg Regiment. Upon the outburst of the Northern War in 1710, he was assigned as Adjutant of the General Otto Wellingk.
After Berndt Otto had spent nearly 13 years in captivity, on the 9th of April, 1722, he was promoted to General of the Infantry. Shortly after that he was assigned as Commander-in- Chief in Finland.
On the 11th of July, 1727, he was promoted to a Field Marshal, as a sign of recognition for his services. On the same day Bernd Otto was as one the most significant persons raised into novelty.
