Baron Berndt Otto II. von Stackelberg (1703-1787)
Swedish Field Marshal
Berndt Otto von Stackelberg was born on the 14th of May, 1703. In 1714, he joined the Infantry Regiment of Tavastehus as a volunteer.
In 1732, Bernd Otto II entered service with Swedish Lifeguards´ Regiment as a Cavalry Captain. It was here that he became a Royal Chamberlain.
Nevertheless, in the same year he left Sweden and joined the imperial service as Captain of the Regiment of Alt-Würtenberg. He participated in the Polish-Austrian succession wars (1733-1735) and in the campaign against Turkey.
In 1746, Berndt Otto returned back to Sweden and joined the Infantry Regiment of Aboland. In 1770 – 1780 he was the Commander-in-Chief of all the Swedish troops in Finland. His appointment to Field Marshal followed in 1778.
